Federal authorities has officially joined a lawsuit brought forward by California Republicans, aiming to block the California's newly approved electoral boundaries.
This legal action, filed in a US district court, targets the redistricting plan championed by Governor Gavin Newsom, which was created in response to a Republican-led gerrymander in Texas.
"The state's redistricting scheme represents a blatant attempt to seize control that violates civil rights and undermines the electoral system," stated the US attorney general.
Democrats have voiced assurance that the new maps will survive legal scrutiny.
"The plaintiffs lost at the ballot box and soon they will face defeat in the judicial system," stated a representative for the governor.
